In Black and White

The theme for the 2005 Annual Report for Ameristar Casino designed by Kuhlmann Leavitt is “In Black and White.” When open, the dimensions of the book is 28 inches by 22 inches. It is larger in size than what a typical annual report is expected to be, but its large size works well with the design because the spreads consist of full bleed photography and it is nice to see the images very large. The photography is all black and white and the images are beautifully photographed. My favorite part of the publication is the type treatment. The type is overlaid on the image in a creative, innovative and sophisticated way. The marriage of photography and typography in this publication creates a narrative, which makes it interesting for the reader to follow and read. —Donna Zitelli
