Harper’s Bazaar Greatest Hits

This book was my main inspiration for the +10-20 project. I loved the full page images and simple layouts with striking font. I also liked quotes that they put throughout the book with a black background and white text, which then faded into grey. Harper’s Bazaar Greatest Hits features the best covers, stories and articles collected from the magazine’s issues from several decades. I liked how it still had the feel of a magazine translated into a book format—which is what I struggled with doing in the project. I realized that everything is simplified, and having a strict format makes a book more cohesive. All the layouts shown below were constantly replicated throughout the book, but it always looked classy—not boring. I also tried to replicate the blown up style of the years, which for this book where the titles of the chapters corresponding to what issues the photographs and articles were taken from. I also noticed that the photographs were very consistent, which made the book very cohesive as well. —Belinda Hale
