Podravka Annual Report by Bruketa & Zinić OM

This is by far the most creative annual report I have ever seen. Bruketa & Zinić OM, a design agency in Croatia, created an annual report for the food company, Podravka, that has to be baked in an oven before reading!

The annual report consists of a bigger book that has the numbers and other important information in it, as well as a small booklet inside that at first seems like a book of blank pages and empty illustrations. In actuality, it is a booklet of recipes by the food company that actually needs to be heated in an oven for the ink to show up. The ink used in the book is “thermo-reactive ink” so after it reaches a certain temperature it becomes visible.

Before baking the publication, the pages are all blank and in the illustrations of the dinner place settings, the plates are empty. After you wrap the book in foil, you are supposed to bake it at 100 degrees Celsius for 25 minutes. If you do not do this correctly, however, the book will either burn or the words will not show up at all. This parallels the idea that Podravka is a highly esteemed and experienced food company, in which everything they make relies on precision and accuracy, just like this booklet does.

What's more, this annual report is not just a good, innovative idea - it is actually a very well designed publication in terms of typography and layout. It has won several esteemed design awards. –Donna Zitelli
