Rethink. Proud Creative for Icon Magazine

Proud Creative, a London based design studio, was commissioned by Icon Magazine to contribute to their Rethink section. The studio decided to rebrand a small British seaside town — Rhyl, North Wales. Shazia Chaudry, the Art Editor of Icon magazine sums up why this section of their magazine was so successful. “The Rhyl Rethink was not only fun, it was well researched, clearly reasoned and back up by great execution. Overall it was just a really good idea!”

As a creative concept, the idea of creating a visual identity for a place in the hopes of it serving to regenerate the location is ambitious. The design, colors and patterns that Proud Creative came up with for Rhyl’s identity are not only beautiful and attractive, they are conceptually sound in portraying Rhyl’s identity and functional within the actual city. As a publication this short booklet proposal is wonderful in it's simplicity. The presentation of ideas is the main focus through strong images and the accompanying copy. The design of the publication itself argues strongly for the rebranding of Rhyl and leaves readers with a strong impression and belief in this project's possible implementation.—Charis Poon
